Job Description:
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™
Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend
on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to
develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At
Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and
sustainability of the physical operations that power our global
economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries
are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture,
construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing —
and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at
scale. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of
physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting
array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle
Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As
part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and
support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the
role: The Context Intelligence team builds systems and
customer-facing products that power Samsara’s safety solutions.
Detections are central: we convert data from millions of vehicles,
assets, and cameras into events that identify unsafe driving
behaviors and highlight positive habits. At scale, this means
detecting not only well-known driver behaviors but also a broader
range of events across road conditions, infrastructure, and
operations. As a Senior Engineer on the team, you will build
AI-powered products that analyze camera footage, telemetry, and
other vehicle data to surface new detections and insights at scale.
You will collaborate closely with Sales Engineering, Product and ML
teams to define and deliver new event detections and features.
You’ll own complex technical problems, help shape our detection
platform, and deliver scalable solutions that improve real-world
outcomes for customers globally. This is a remote position open to
candidates residing in the US. You should apply if: • You want to
impact the industries that run our world: The software, firmware,
and hardware you build will result in real-world impact—helping to
keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, and most
importantly, ensure workers return home safely. • You want to build
for scale: With over 2.3 million IoT devices deployed to our global
customers, you will work on a range of new and mature technologies
driving scalable innovation for customers across industries driving
the worlds physical operations. • You are a life-long learner: We
have ambitious goals. Every Samsarian has a growth mindset as we
work with a wide range of technologies, challenges, and customers
that push us to learn on the go. • You believe customers are more
than a number: Samsara engineers enjoy a rare closeness to the end
user and you will have the opportunity to participate in customer
interviews, collaborate with customer success and product managers,
and use metrics to ensure our work is translating into better
customer outcomes. • You are a team player: Working on our Samsara
Engineering teams requires a mix of independent effort and
collaboration. Motivated by our mission, we’re all racing toward
our connected operations vision, and we intend to win—together. In
this role, you will: • Build and release new features rapidly,
validate with customers, and evolve them toward robust, scalable
solutions. • Solve complex problems and own the success of your
solutions as you architect, build, test, and deliver full-stack
products. • Build upon skills and knowledge across a range of
technologies, such as Go, GraphQL, Typescript, React, and MySQL.
Previous experience with these technologies is not required. • Own
the operational health of production systems as we build for the
future scale of an ever-growing customer base. • Make an impact on
our core architecture, roadmap, and the wider engineering
community. • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural
principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term,
Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale
globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role:
• 5 years of experience in software development. • Experience
shipping features that are used by customers and iterate on
customer feedback to inform what to deliver next. • Strong
communication skills and a desire to collaborate. You can explain
why you build something a certain way and be open to suggestions
from other engineers and stakeholders. • A growth mindset and
excitement around building new skills and expertise. • Should be a
quick learner and operate with minimum supervision. • Comfortable
with building out end-to-end solutions. A preference for front-end
or back-end development is okay, but you’ll need to be happy
working across the stack. • Maintain production systems your team
owns and provide operational support when necessary. • Early
adopter of AI technology with demonstrated strong interest in AI
applications. An ideal candidate also has: • 5 years of full stack
experience working in a fast-paced environment and contributing to
an early-stage product. • Experience taking LLM systems into
production for customer-facing features at scale. • Effectively
collaborated on a geographically distributed team. • Experience
maintaining software products at scale. • Experience in Go,
GraphQL, Typescript, React, and AWS is a plus.
