Job Description Job Description Position: 7-12 Substitute Teacher Reports to: Assistant Headmaster for Academic Affairs Department: Faculty Classification: Non-exempt Contract Length: As needed basis Position Summary Delbarton School, an independent Benedictine Catholic school for young men in grades 7-12 seeks excellent candidates for the role of Substitute teacher. Candidates should be compelling teachers who are confident in their capacity to instruct students in the assigned subject area and grade levels. The Substitute teacher is expected to have capabilities in the areas of instruction, classroom management, and communication. In addition to their substitute teaching assignments, all faculty have the opportunity to contribute to the life of the school community through coaching and/or moderating student activities. Position Responsibilities Advances the Benedictine Catholic mission and philosophy of Delbarton School in all professional duties. Adheres to all school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, artistic, and educational mission. Monitors and supervises a positive and engaging classroom environment where students are encouraged and challenged at all levels of development. Works collaboratively with colleagues and the Administration to foster a positive, appropriate relationship with colleagues and students. Implements lesson plans and can take direction from others. Organizes a variety of materials in order to deliver instruction. Covers morning and afternoon duties where needed. Performs other related duties, as assigned, in the absence of the teacher. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Attributes) Undergraduate degree strongly preferred. Possesses ability to effectively teach and assess an academically gifted and diverse student population. Excellent writing and communication skills. History of collegiality and collaboration with other colleagues, teachers and administrators. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles. Innovative, creative, and flexible teaching style. Understands the developmental needs of students and how they learn best. Demonstrated and direct experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools. Physical Requirements Regularly lifting or carrying 1-20 lbs.
